Is God the LionTurtle?
Nope! This kind of question is why I want it to be a group writing effort. The current Avatar was raised Christian, so zie has a certain background knowledge on how that religion interprets bending/the Avatar. A Muslim Avatar, Jewish, Avatar, or an atheist Avatar would see things completely differently.
As for the lion turtle, there are no hybrid animals in this AU. The closest I could think is them being in the Spirit World or being featured in every world mythology like dragons are.
I like that u mentioned atheist Avatar. That brings an interesting perspective to a world so connected to the spirit. I bet an atheist Avatar would see benders the way mutants are seen in The Marvel universe, as a natural progression in human evolution. Benders would be a different species of human that some would see as superior. If benders are the minority, they might have something to fear from unfriendly governments. How many benders would be captured and experimented on for science? Would bending be illegal in some place? Would benders need permits or some sort of ID? How does the Avatar deal with all of this? Given Korra’s disconnection with the past Avatars, an atheist Avatar who does not believe in the Spirit World is really feasible.
Well, I’m thinking of when an atheist Avatar would be around. The latest is Christopagan, then going back its Buddhist, Hindu, Roman Catholic, Shinto, Traditional Maori Religion, Protestant Christian (Calvinist), Roman Catholic (pagan convert), Buddhist, Buddhist, Roman Catholic, then probably a Muslim Avatar and a Jewish Avatar…wow, there hasn’t been an atheist Avatar in awhile.
The statistics are roughly: 3 billion nonbenders, 1 billion waterbenders, 1 billion earthbenders, 1 billion firebenders, and 1 billion airbenders. Depending on who was in power and the state of the world at the time, both benders and nonbenders have been abused.
so this conversation about my if-bending/the avatar-was-in-our-world au has become a thing
